Description of M.Sc ( Nursing) Programme:

AIM:

The aim of the post graduate programme in nursing is to prepare graduates to assume responsibilities as nurse specialists, consultants, educators and administrators in a wide variety of professional settings.

Objectives:

On completion of the two years M.Sc (N) program, the graduate will be able to:

    1. Utilize/apply the concepts, theories and principles of nursing science.
    2. Demonstrate advance competence in practice of nursing
    3. Practice as a nurse specialist
    4. Demonstrate leadership qualities and function effectively as nurse educator and manager
    5. Demonstrate skill in conducting nursing research, interpreting  & utilizing the findings from health related research
    6. Demonstrate the ability to plan & effect change is nursing practice and in health care delivery system.
    7. Establish collaborative relationship with member of other disciplines
    8. Demonstrate interest in continued learning for personal and professional advancement

    Eligibility for M.Sc(N) Admission


          The candidates should have

      • Passed the qualification of B.Sc Nursing Degree of this university or any other university accepted as equivalent there to
      • Should have registered with the state Registration council of Nursing and Midwifery
      • B.Sc (N) graduates should have one year of experience in a hospital or in a college or in a school of Nursing or in community Health programme after registration in the state Nursing council, Chennai.
      • Minimum one year of work experience prior or after post basic B.Sc Nursing
      • In case of Male candidates they should have passed any other course recommended by the Indian Nursing Council, New Delhi in Place of Midwifery. Those, who have Studied Midwifery, are eligible for admission to Branch III Midwifery to Branch IV Community Health Nursing.
      • Candidate should be medically fit

      Eligibility Certificate:

                                               
      Candidates shall obtain an eligibility certificate directly from the university in person by remitting the prescribed fees along with the application form, which shall be downloaded from the university website (www.tnmmu.ac.in)

      Migration Certificate:
      Other university candidates must obtain a migration certificate from the concerned university where they completed their Under Graduate degree.

      Application Procedure
      A requisition letter for the prospectus and application form should be made to the Chairman, Nehru Nursing College, Vallioor along with a D.D for Rs. 500/- drawn infavour of Nehru Nursing College, Vallioor.

      1. The application form is to be completed by the  applicant in her own handwriting
      2. Application should be duly filled and all the necessary certificates should be accompanied failing which the application will not be considered.

      Candidates shall submit the following certificate all in original at the time of registration and admission:

      1. Eligibility Certificate.
      2. Mark sheet of 10th std.
      3. Mark sheet of 12th std.
      4. Certificate indicating the date of birth.
      5. Mark sheet of B.Sc Nursing/Post Basic B.Sc(N).
      6. B.Sc(N) Degree certificate along with RN RM.
      7. RN, RM certificate (renewal certificate if needed).
      8. Experience Certificate.
      9. Transcript of B.Sc(N).
      10. Course completion certificate of B.Sc(N).
      11. Provisional degree certificate.
      12. Transfer certificate from college of Nursing where you have studied B.Sc(N).
      13. Community Certificate.
      14. Migration from the University of Under Graduate degree completion.
      15. Registration with the  Tamil Nadu Nursing Council.
      16. Passport size photos-10 Nos.

      All information given in the application form should be correct if any false information noticed during the course, individual would be disqualified.


      Selection Procedure:

      1. Selection of candidates will be done on merit basis by selection committee.
      2. Admission granted is provisional subjected to the following conditions
      3. The payment   of all fees to the institution.
      4. Submission of eligibility certificate from The Tamil Nadu Dr.M.G.R. Medical University, Chennai-32.
      5. Submission of all certificates and testimonials in originals as per requirement.
      6. Medical fitness clearance.

      Medium of Instruction
      English shall be the medium of instruction for all the subjects of study and for examination of M.Sc(N) Degree course.


      Duration of the course: 
      The duration of certified study for M.Sc (N) course shall be over a period of two academic years.


      Commencement of the course:
      The course shall commence from September 1st of the academic year.


      Working days in the Academic year:


      Each academic year shall consist of not less than 270 working days.


      Attendance:
      Candidate should have 90% of attendance in theory and 100% practical separately and should have completed all the requirements before the examination.
      Post graduate students shall attend conferences, workshops, seminars and do publication/presentation of papers during their study period.


      Condonation of lack of attendance:
      There shall be no condonation of any kind of leave for any reason including pregnancy, child birth and medical condition of any nature.


      Regulation for examination:
      University examination:
      Theory and practical examination shall be conducted at the end of 1st year and 2nd year respectively in the subject as per syllabus and if the candidate fails he/she may be allowed to appear for supplementary examination.

      1. Maximum number of attempts permitted for each paper is 3, including first attempt.
      2. Maximum period to complete the course successfully should not exceed 4 years.
      3. Candidate, who fails in any subject, shall be permitted to continue the studies in to the 2nd year. However the candidates shall not be allowed to appear for the 2nd year examination till such time that he or she passes all subjects of the 1st year M.Sc Nursing examination.

      Cut off dates for Admission to the Examination.

      1. Candidates admitted upto September 1st of the academic year will be registered to take up their 1st year M.Sc(N)  examination on 15th October of the ensuing year.

      Internal assessment:
      There shall be an internal assessment in all the subjects and marks for each subject will be according to the weightage gain to each subject.
      The internal assessment mark shall be an aggregate of 3 sessional examinations in theory/practical.
      The college examination along with marks of all evaluation will form the internal assessment for all the subjects.
      A candidate must secure 50% marks in theory/practical examination separately in each subject.


      Classification of result:
      50% pass in both theory and practical separately.
      50% - 59%               -  Second Class
      60% - 74%             -  First Class
      75% and above      -  Distinction
      For declaring the rank aggregate of 2 years marks to be the considered.


      Dissertation:

      1. Submission of the research proposal end of 9th month of 1st year.
      2. Submission of dissertation- end of 9th month of 2nd year.

      Eligibility for the Award of Degree:
      The candidate shall be awarded the degree of Master of science in Nursing when a candidate has put in the prescribed programme of study for 2 years and successfully completed all programme requirement including the submission of dissertation.

      GENERAL INFORMATION:

      • Location of the college:

      College site consists nearly 10 acres of land which is just 3 km from vallioor bus stand on Tiruchendur Road. The college enjoys an easy accessibility on road and rail.

      • Teaching Faculties:

      Comprehensive holistic, dedicated Nursing Education is imparted at the college with a team of able dedicated Nursing faculty. Nursing education is further made efficient by various departments such as Medical Surgical Nursing, Pediatrics, Obstetrics and gynecology, Community Health Nursing Foundation and Psychiatry dept.

      • Clinical Faculties:

      Clinical Experience are provided at parent Hospital which is a 100 bedded multispecialty Hospital, and also in many multi speciality reputed hospitals at Tirunelveli and Nagercoil like Galaxy Hospital, Shifa Hospital, Lakshmi Madhavan Hospital, Annai Velankani Hospital, Agastheyar Muni Child care centre, Punitha George Mission Hospital, Krishna Hospital, Thiraviam Hopital, Bensam Hospital, Morris Hospital, Agarwal Eye Hospital, Umar ENT Hospital etc..

      • Community Health facilities:

      Community Health department has adopted many villages in and around vallioor in which, it provides comprehensive health care services. Students are provided community health experience in Government Primary Health Centre Panagudi, Thulukarpatti and Urban health centre at Tirunelveli.

      • Library Facilities:
      The college has a well furnished library established for nursing students. It has over 5000 books, 50 Journals including National and International, Magazines, Newspaper for the use of students/staff. Library functions nearly 8 hours daily under the guidance of professionally qualified librarians. Students are encouraged to make use of all resources and abide by the rules of and regulation of the library.
      • Health Services:

      On admission, students undergo a physical examination. An annual medical examination is also conducted. Students are immunised against infectious disease whenever necessary.


      The candidate must inform us about any long term/chronic illness on admission itself. 

      • Uniform and dressing code.

      Students are expected to have 2 sets of uniform and wear the full uniform during their clinical experience. In uniform, students are not permitted to wear any form of jewellery, nail polish, except small ear rings. Hair must be tidy and put up neatly.
      Students are expected to dress modestly to the classes in the college. Full saree, salvar kameez are the permitted dresses.

      • Fees and Payments:

      At the time of admission, prescribed fees should be paid. Tuition fees and other fees of each year should be paid at the beginning of the year. No student will be allowed to attend classes unless she completes with all the admission requirements and pays all the fees for the year.

      • Social Activities:

      With emphasis on the total development of the individual, students are encouraged to participate fully in social and community affair every year through National Service Scheme and Youth Red Cross Activities.

       

      • Students Discipline:

      Rules and Regulations related to students discipline are in force to effectively maintain discipline among students.

      • Vacation:

      Vacations are planned according to the programme of study and norms of Indian Nursing Council. All students are expected to avail these days, if the students are unable to return on time after the vacation due to illness, the Principal should be intimated, followed by a leave application along with the Medical Certificate.

      • Hostel Facilities:

      Students can avail hostel facilities. Each room has attached bathroom and toilet. Students are provided with cot facilities. Students are advised not to keep any valuable goods, jewellery with them, as they are responsible for any loss of belongings.

      • Mess:

      All the students are expected to dine in the hostel mess. Mess charges and accommodation charges are Rs. 2,800/-(Mess Rs 1900+Room Rent 900)per month. Students are expected to clear the monthly mess bill before 10th of every month. Failing which a fine of Rs. 100/- will be collected. Mess bill is subjected to change according to the Management.

      • Field visit and Educational Tour:

      As a part of the curriculum, field visits are arranged every year to the respective areas that is SCAD rehabilitation centre, St. Lukes Leprosy centre, Deaf and Dumb school, HIV centre, kudankulam nuclear power project, Indian Red cross society,  Primary Health Centre etc. During 2nd year educational tour is arranged to Bangalore / Delhi.

      • Anti raging Committee:

      There is no ragging practice existing in our college.
      Anti ragging committee formed with a total of 10 members along with representation from management. Every month meeting is conducted and policies are reviewed. Any complaints related to ragging can be informed to the Principal.
